In 1986,
David McCallum
was 16 years old when he found himself alone, arrested, and interrogated
by veteran Brooklyn homicide detectives. They told him he was the
prime suspect, along with his friend Willie Stuckey, in the murder
of a young man named Nathan Blenner. They falsely told him that Stuckey
had implicated him and said that David was the principle one behind
the crime. Responding to pressure and relying on false promises that
he would be freed if he confessed, David told a story that implicated
Stuckey and himself. Even though he would quickly recant the confession
and insist on going to trial, his trial lawyer barely put up a defense,
failing to make an opening statement or even cross-examine critical
witnesses. Since his conviction, David has been frantically trying
to find the evidence that would establish his innocence once and for
all. His desperate cry for help was heard by none other than Dr. Rubin
“Hurricane” Carter, the internationally recognized expert
in the field of wrongful conviction. Dr. Carter has since assembled
a team of renown legal and investigative experts to help in David’s
plight. There was no physical evidence, no weapon, no identification
testimony –nothing – connecting David or Willie to this
crime. Willie Stuckey has since died in prison and David remains wrongfully
incarcerated. The team has already uncovered leads and physical evidence
ignored or passed up by the NYPD.
